DE LA PLATA A LA COCAÍNA

The present book is composed by a series of essays that take in account the participation and the diverse and volatile inclusion that Latin America has had in the international trade, beginning at the end of the XV century until today. These studies are far from the conventional approaches to global economy, since they are looking to approach the financial world through the history of trade and the trajectory of the goods. It also does an historical review of eleven main products, starting with an analysis of silver as international currency of the former European regime. The investigation continues with studies of the raw material chains in the Spanish and British empires, the protectionism, the subsidy and the regulation of the internal market products such as sugar and finally, it talks about an historical perspective on the Latin America merchandise chains, but before all of this it needs to be explained the main problems the American continent had when basing his economy in the trading of these products: textile dyes, coffee, cacao, tabaco, sugar, bananas, rubber, Yucatan sisal and cocaine. This book gives proof not only of the main goods in Latin America, but also the complexity of his inclusion in the foreign market and how the structure of globalization has become complete due to the rise on exports in the last decades.
